Families Helping Families

 

An initiative of the Port Alberni Community Action Team to support families who have people they love with substance illness. 

Families Helping Families in Partnership with Moms Stop The Harm, Holding Hope provides a support group that meets virtually once a month. It's a safe place to talk and share information about the family journey with someone suffering from a substance illness 

People can join the support group by sending an email to albernihelp@gmail.com or holdinghopeportalberni@gmail.com

Learning Moments:

Learning Moments is a stand-alone initiative that tries to publish weekly Learning Moment articles that are featured on our main page as well as emailed to subscribers on all aspects of substance illness, specifically written in lay language and oriented to info that families need in supporting their family members with substance illness. Learning Moments' creator and editor is Ron Merk. These articles, at times, include opinion pieces that may not reflect the position of the Port Alberni CAT Team. Guest authors are welcome and can submit their submissions to ron@wordwest.cc.

In addition, FHF involves all Lived Experience people in the Port Alberni CAT working on other initiatives that support any work for people impacted by the overdose crisis. Some examples of this are the implementation of an ID Clinic in Port Alberni, and the Visual Display in The Coulson Building on 3r Ave, developed to show the cost of lives in our regions from overdoses.
